You have recently taken over the Food Services Department at General Hospital in Smallville, VA. The hospital is a 350-bed facility that serves a town of approximately 50,000 and county of 130,000. The administration team is composed of young and aggressive individuals. The unit is not functioning well. There are 48 full-time and 20 part-time employees. The unit is currently overstaffed by 5 FTEs; has excessive food and supply costs, has low morale, displeased internal and external customers, pays more overtime than any other department, and has not real system in place to order needed supplies or adhere to dietary needs of patients. To add to this, there has been no improvements or changes in management philosophy in over 25 years. Some comments from staff and employees include:

-The morning shift does everything wrong. There is no standardized procedures (supervisor);

After examining the demand for licenses in the European and UK marketplaces, it is clear that the development of multiple software packages will be required to satisfy demand. On the other hand, it is also evident that not enough resources exist to develop all packages required to satisfy the market. However, it is essential that you evaluate the possibilities so that all resources are employed, and profit is maximized.
The data associated with the development, sales and support cost, and revenues are highlighted below and are extracted from the International Expansion spreadsheet (the details will be found in the spreadsheet).
Your objective is to evaluate this data using linear programming to determine the following:
What mix of sales maximizes profitability given the constraint that the combined development activity must not exceed 5750 hours?
Also, while it is preferred to carry out all development efforts, assume that regardless of the mix, you must develop at least one unit of scheduling, route optimization, and fuel optimization software. Also, assume that you must spend at least twice as many hours developing the maintenance plan software as you spend on scheduling software.
After setting up the Excel Solver and finding a solution for optimal profitability, you have the opportunity to reduce the development hours for the scheduling, route optimization, and fuel optimization software by the following amounts due to the implementation of new software tools:

After completing the decision tree analysis and reporting to senior management, it is determined that a more dynamic and more robust view of the decision environment is necessary. You decide that the way to do this is to carry out a Monte-Carlo analysis using the mean revenue by location, the projected high, average, and low scenarios, and accompanying probabilities. In this assignment, you will:
Begin with the decision tree data in the International Expansion spreadsheet (xlsx). Download International Expansion spreadsheet (xlsx).This time, instead of the Decision Tree tab, select the Monte-Carlo tab to perform the analysis.
Carry out a minimum of 50 trials selecting high, average, and low values using the assigned probabilities of each (refer to the readings and resources in this module to identify how to perform these tasks in Excel).
Compare your findings with the decision-tree results you arrived at in Module 4.
Create a report on your findings with your recommendations on the best possibility for international expansion.
Include in your report a tornado diagram sensitivity analysis comparing costs with revenue for each of the identified events that could impact revenue and cost (Airline merger, New competitor, Product problem, Strike, Recession).
